“the closest point to Europe in the US”
West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine, is the easternmost point of the contiguous United States and the closest point to Europe from a point in the fifty States. West Quoddy Head overlooks Quoddy Narrows, a strait between Canada and the United States. Since 1808, there has been a lighthouse there to guide ships through the waterway. The current one, with distinctive red-and-white stripes, was built in 1858. Photographs and paintings of this lighthouse are frequently reproduced. The 3rd order Fresnel lens is the only 3rd order and one of only eight Fresnel lenses still in use on the Maine Coast. West Quoddy Head Light was added to the National Register of Historic Places as West Quoddy Head Light Station on July 4, 1980, reference number 80004601. In 1990, the U.S. Postal Service issued a 25 cent stamp featuring the West Quoddy Head Light.

Great place to visit! It was one of the stops for my 4-corners of the US trip.
It is a long drive off the highway back to the site - all paved roads. Most park on the hill and walk down to the lighthouse. A fence prohibits going out to the furthest point, but I got close. There is a monument that commemorates this is a corner of the US.
Beautiful lighthouse with some local trails. Beautiful views and a nice relaxing place to take in the eastern most point.
