“Access the Tchefuncte River!”

Scattered throughout the park beneath a canopy of huge oak trees, you will find numerous picnic tables, as well as a group pavilion, a playground, and comfort stations. Spend a relaxing afternoon on the river or venture out into the water for lively outdoor recreation. If you prefer to stay on land, the park's nature trail will take you by the river where you can enjoy the view. Then, cap off the perfect day by staying overnight in the park's campground. The cool, crystal-clear waters of the Tchefuncte River yield bass, bluegill, white perch, and bream near the park area, and channel catfish, speckled trout and redfish where the river meets the lake. Freshwater fishing from the river bank or a boat offers unmatched delights for even the most casual fisherman. Crabbing in the lake and the river is also popular. Just two miles away by road and a few minutes by water is the Madisonville public boat launch. Many visitors use the launch for access to the calm waters of the Tchefuncte River or the exhilarating expanse of Lake Pontchartrain.

Ya know... it was nice. Quite large campground, all back in spots - everything was kept well.

The walk down to the river and through their nature trail is lovely. Great place to have a bike.

Nearby town in each direction are both ADORABLE with an amazing grocery store nearby called Rouses Market - address 4350 LA 22 - maybe a 6 minute ride, but amazing store!

Employees were EXCELLENT at the camp ground. Polite and helpful.

There's two ways to get here..

IF you are in a big rig, take Hwy 190 south from I12.

I took Hwy 21 from 12 and went through the adorable town of Madisonville, but I was towing a not as tall trailer - doing this route in a big rig would have freaked me out! It could be done, but WHEW.

Check in was fast, the site was fine - all in all lovely.

Fairview-Riverside State Park is a couple of miles east of Madisonville on the Tchefuncte River and is a welcome change after making our way through the traffic and noise of the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway approach area.

It has 81 W/E RV campsites in two areas and 20 tent campsites. A large area contains most of the sites while a much smaller area is right on the river and, in our opinion, very preferable.

Unfortunately although wifi is provided the connection is easily overwhelmed and unusable.

An attraction of the park is the Otis House, which was built in 1880 and is now a museum.

We last stayed here in December of 2010. The park has been updated since then. New entrance station and bath houses.

It is a great place to stay. There is plenty to see and do in the Covington, Mandeville, and Madisonville area, but New Orleans is just across the causeway. If you don't mind the drive, this amazing city is very accessible.

We were here to visit family and friends and to attend the Jazz Fest. All was very doable from here.

The park has easy access to the river where we spent a happy several hours in our kayaks.

The only downside is that there is only water and electric hookups. There is a dump station in the park, but it takes some waste tank management for longer stays.

After registration fees and all it comes to 28.55 for the first night but only $20 there after.
The park has individual shower rooms in great repair and a lovely setting. I plan on coming back at some point.
Free internet too.

We loved this campground. We came in the day after it rained and it was pretty flooded. Thankfully the campsites are paved and we had no trouble parking. The spots were clean and we had electric. It’s a kid friendly park with a large play area and space to run. It’s location was great too. Close to several towns and a 45 min drive to New Orleans if you take the $3 toll road across the lake.
The campground had very clean bathrooms. Each private with a shower and toilet. Clean and well maintained. They also had laundry, that was free, but only one washer worked and it was fairly dirty. Decided to find a laundromat instead, which was 25 minutes away but worth it. Would totally stay here again. Highly recommend it.

My wife and I purchased our first RV late last year and was anxious to take a vacation out of state but not too far, resulted in reserving a spot here and a 5 hour drive.
The park was very easy to get to, good signing and Waze took me straight in. The guy at check in was super, very entertaining and so helpful. The only thing I will say that is negative is the these sites are old but kept up well for the most part. Being old, they were built years ago when most RVs were smaller than many now and the sites are narrow. Ours was victim of heavy rains recently that left the picnic table standing in water and the gravel pad where you have to walk to enter the camper was mushy and needed to be built up more but after throwing down a tarp and outdoor carpet, I was good. A lot of grassy areas that was greatly saturated, but the natural environment would be spoiled with added asphalt/concrete, so I was ok with it on this trip.
With that said, I will say that our site was probably one of the lowest spots after we got a chance to look around more. We had requested a 50 ft rig pad due to our toy hauler and there were few at the time of the reservation to pick from. I am still happy, the pluses outweighs any of the negatives. The park itself is very clean and in order. Good security throughout the day, not that it was needed, but was good to see. The riverside boardwalk was beautiful as is the elevated swamp trail that was nearby.
Convenient to so many things ... shopping, river, lake, New Orleans and be sure to visit the Global Wildlife Center just 25 miles away.
This park was a great choice, will be back for sure.

Booked online through ReserveAmerica. Website says with Golden Buckeye Card (National) we would be given 50% of fee refunded when we checked in. Check in only honors States who reciprocate, which was a list of about 5 States. No refund. Total cost $72 for 2 nights and not full hookup.
Well kept and large sites. Nice laundry and easy access off 1-12. Busy community with lots of shopping and restaurants very close.

This is one of the prettiest places we have camped and we were just steps from the river. We had 50 amp power and water in an improved site with an adjacent dump site. There was a new fire ring and picnic table. There is a handicapped site which had full hook ups, but requires that you show your handicapped tag. The new Louisiana senior discount is for ages 62 and up.
