The "Shaft" is known for its New Mexico Roadhouse Cuisine. Green Chile Cheese BurgersGreat Daily Specials & DessertsWe also offer vegetarian items and local Waygu Beef.Full bar with fresh squeezed Margarita's and 12 Beers on Tap! In the 1950's most of the mines closed and Madrid became known as a ghost town for about 20 years. The Mine Shaft Tavern and Madrid's Old Coal Town Museum are on the 2005 "most endangered historic places".
Yummy food!!! Very cool place to see in tiny small town Madrid. Lots of shops. Maggie's is also right down the road....(location for Wild Hogs).
A GEM of a place. Slow time, good folks, and atmosphere reminiscent of the mining days. But you will find your inner hippy quite comfortable here. If you’re looking to peel off the city life, there is no place like Madrid. Worth the drive from Santa Fe and plan to spend the day. Quaint shops will keep you busy and the saloons will make you feel welcome.
Highly disappointed in the whole Turquoise Trail in general but this place was crappy. Service was below average, it was very slow to get refills or orders. The waitress we ended up having was such a sweetheart that we sort of grinned and just enjoyed it for what it was worth. But they are proud of their food prices and it was OKAY but I certainly would not recommend it to a friend. I mean if you are going through Madrid and your starving like we were (it's food it filled a hole) but I wouldn't recommend :(
Best chili cheeseburger and margarita! Staff was great!
