Shady Glen, officially Shady Glen Dairy Stores, is a restaurant with two locations in Manchester, CT. John and Bernice Rieg opened the first Shady Glen store near the Manchester/Bolton town line in 1948. They followed up with a second store located in the Manchester Parkade shopping center in 1965. Famous for their homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors, their signature "Bernice Original" cheeseburger, their vintage 1950s/1960s style diner and their exceptional service, Shady Glen has become an institution for the town of Manchester, and has earned the attention of cheeseburger lovers across the country.
