“one of central Ohio's top boating & outdoor attractions”
Charles Mill Lake, situated in Richland and Ashland counties near Mansfield, is one of central Ohio's top boating and outdoor attractions. Managed by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, the lake was constructed in the 1930s for flood reduction and water conservation, but has turned into an outdoor recreational paradise. The lake and Charles Mill Lake Park are easily accessible off Rt. 30 and I-71 near Mansfield. Boating, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, hunting, swimming and more are among the reasons visitors make their way to Charles Mill Lake each year. A campground of more than 500 sites at Charles Mill Lake Park accommodates visitors for a weekend, a week, month or more. The park also is home to a full schedule of activities and events each year from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A full-service marina also is located on the lake for visitors and guests.

We stumbled on this campgrounds by chance after having some mechanical issues. It was a relatively easy check in process and they handed out a voucher showing all of the rates along with other campsites in the same chain (must be a county campsite guide or some sort).
We have a skoolie with minimal Hooke ups, we pretty much only use electric. We have two dogs as well so we rather park somewhere with grass so we can tie them out. The full hookup RV areas were on concrete and fully open and though I see the appeal, it wasn’t ideal for our pups. So we went with a primitive site. Be aware, the primitive site doesn’t have electric posts like most do, the only electric outlets were at gazebos. Their sister site Eagle Ridge only has 30 amp which we didn’t have an adapter for.
There were nice playgrounds, a basketball court, volleyball and a small beach. The campgrounds were quiet and people mostly kept to themselves which was nice after a long day of traveling. Primitive campsites don’t have showers and the bathrooms there were honestly really disgusting and smelt like pee was sitting there for days. On the flip side there were nice showers/bathrooms that were extremely clean and temperature controlled about a 1/4 mile away from where we camped in the primitive area.
There were nice water spickets spread across the camp that gave us nice clean water and there were quite a few shady areas to rest. Each site came with a picnic table and fire pit and the gazebos had a relatively large grill!

Stayed at Charles Mill Lake Eagle Point Campground the weekend of May 5-7. Our site was huge! I guess we were told we got the "site everyone wants" ... basically on a peninsula with a full 180° view of the lake. Electric hook up only, but potable water hook up across the street. Bathrooms were warm and clean.
Fire wood and camp store across the street at the Main Campground.
Downsides: site was in a bit of a slope, used our levels for the first time. For those of you who use them every time this wouldn't be an issue... we just rarely get them out... not much hiking or anything in the immediate area, but beautiful spot!

What a beautiful campground and so well maintained. From the bathrooms to the landscaping and everything in between - it was all in tip top shape. Stunning views of the lake. We were only passing through for one night, but wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend!

We had just bought our brand new Travel Van in the area that afternoon and the superfriendly guy at the Campground office gave us the BEST SPOT EVER (for us at that time anyway). It was the last one of the premium sites overlooking the lake, called Premium Waterfront.
Since there was no one else around at this time in March, it was magical to spend our first night here in our first ever RV. Thank you so much, friendly guy!
