“year-round camping available!”
Curry Hammock is made up of a group of islands in the Middle Keys, with public access to swimming, a playground, picnic tables, grills and showers on the ocean side of Little Crawl Key. The hardwood hammocks found on these tropical islands support one of the largest populations of thatch palms in the United States. Mangrove swamps, seagrass beds and wetlands provide vital habitats for tropical wildlife. The blue land crabs have emerged from their holes and have joined our summer campers. They may be seen scurrying along our roads, trails, campground, and other use areas as they make their way to their favorite summertime spot. We encourage you to join our crabs in their adventure and find a special summertime retreat with us. Campground reservations are already in short supply; so don't wait to make yours through Reserve America. The campground enjoys a nice sea breeze most days which keeps temperatures down. For the birdwatchers, we have already seen white-crowned pigeons feasting on their favorite treat, poisonwood berries. For those who want to explore the shallow pristine waters which surround our park, kayak and paddleboard rentals are available through the Ranger Station daily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

We had a spot right along the outer dune - just a short walk to the beach. The dune did a great job blocking the wind and we had peek-a-boo views of the water. Lots of kite surfers on the beach while we were there.
Of all the state parks that we stayed at in the Keys, this was the quietest. We appreciated the educational plant signs that were all around the campground - very interesting to learn about the various plants. The camp hosts were wonderful.
They have a great public use area with picnic tables and grills, along with a small playground for the kids. You can rent kayaks and it looked like there was a nice lagoon area to explore.

We really enjoyed our time here! The sites are nice and level with plenty of vegetation for privacy between sites. There were wonderful ocean breezes the whole time we were here. Several evenings we took our dinner to the quiet picnic area a short walk from the campsites (separate from the public day use area). We were fascinated by the land crabs and iguanas on the pathways and around the campsite. We enjoyed hanging out at the small but pleasant beach area and hiking the hammock trail. Also note that it's an easy day trip to either Key West or the snorkeling at John Pennekamp State Park. Interestingly, the bathrooms in the campground area had composting toilets. The shower room was steamy because there was no ventilation and though there was lots of solar heated hot water, it was a challenge to get cool water. Also the voltage was marginal with the ac running. But those are very minor negatives. This was a terrific stay and we hope we can get reservations to return next year!

Curry Hammock is a small state park with nicely spaced campsites. The hosts rake the spots for the next camper which makes the overall campground appear more tidy.
The bathrooms were under construction during our stay, but it looks like it will be a great facility.
We rented a 2 person kayak from the state park for $20 and toured the mangroves around the island. Highly recommended.

This our favorite state park in the Keys because it has a great beach feel. It's the newest park, too, and all 3 sites we were in were perfectly level. They are also exceptionally clean and have a private feeling with the tall greenery in between sites. Some of the sites like site 9 have a HUGE patio area where you could fit 2-3 screen tents. Our other sites didn't have this, but they were still generously sized. These 3 sites were on the beach side making it easy to walk our kayak out to launch. You can also launch from the kayak rental spot in the day use area.
The beach itself is pretty nice, especially for the coral islands of the Keys. The sand is fine and you can walk out a bit before hitting the mud. If you take a kayak out in the ocean, there are a couple of sand bars you can stand on during low tide.
Our maximum stay in one spot was 4 days, so we didn't use the temporary restrooms set up in the trailers. The bath house should be nice as it looks like the Long Key bath houses which were nice.
While we were there, they had live music on Thursdays. It seemed to be a mix of local musicians and RVers. The parks is about 20 minutes from Marathon with restaurants, groceries, and shopping.

Beach was just OK. Lots of vegetation in the water and ashore. Better beach at nearby sombrero park. Main bathroom was closed for repairs and from the pace of the construction crew, it may be a while before it reopens. If you are near or at a site near the bathroom you might be bothered by some noise during the day for a few hours. However there are good substitute bathrooms with showers. Lots of volunteers to help and clean, plus occasional events for campers. Overall a good spot, if you can get in. Accesssbility is usually very tight.

Small campground. Beach overgrown, year to year there is more grass than sand. Bottom of the beach is mudy and not pleasant to walk on. At times full of blue manowar medusa. Because its shallow the windsurfing kayts are popular and can be crowded with kayt surfers that can get annoying. Not much swimming or none at all. Kayaking can be done in the loop around the park. Bathouses are under reno and considering the snail speed of the 2-3 man crew it will not be finished anytime soon. There is no attractions anyware close, if you like nice beach and something to do Bahia Honda is a better choice. Noseeum flyies can be ovelwhelming at times. The hosts are friendly and nice and keep the place clean.
No WiFi. Stores are located in Marathon, 15-20 min drive.

The angled gravel sites were a wonderful surprise for a state park! Our site backed up to the water, but none were oceanfront (trees separated sites from the beach). There’s a short walkway to get to the beach, it’s sandy, but lots of seaweed too. Cell service was decent here with the cell booster. Bathrooms were clean (we were there right after the new bathroom building was installed). We saw lots of iguanas. Pretty convenient location for groceries considering it’s the FL Keys.

We unfortunately had to leave after two nights in early April because of work, but got lucky again this week and secured a site for next year.
Site 9 is gorgeous, large and has a view of the ocean. You still have to walk to the beach entrance to go to the beach in order not to disturb flora, it it was a short walk.
I loved the beach. I had it pretty much to myself. While low tide wasn’t great for swimming because of sea grass, high tide was fine. I enjoyed snorkeling because of the abundance of sea life. We took our kayak out to one of the sand bars (near the channel markers) and those are great to swim from at low tide.
The bathhouse was modern and nicely kept. They also had a book exchange there. No laundry facilities.
The sites that are on the ocean side Face the sun for most of the day, so bring a sun shelter. Our awning did not provide a lot of protection. Next year we will be on the other side, so our trailer will block most of the sun. At the beginning of April the sun is still at quite an angle.

Lucked out a got a site in the middle of September. (Usually stay two weeks in April. )This is the cleanest state park in the Keys. Even has a beach on the Atlantic. Kite surfers love it. Close to Marathon stores, fishing charters, restaurants, bars, and shopping. Kayaking around the island is a treat or go out a .25 mile to the sandbar. Site 21 was amazing. Looking out the front door directly to the beach. And no one else in site thanks to the layout of the site.
