Sun Outdoors Marathon

The location of this RV park is great for the middle Keys. We enjoyed our two weeks here, however, this campground is under transition. Sun Outdoors purchased an older park and are putting a lot of money into it. While we were there, three permanent residences were demolished. So think excavators, dump trucks, stump grinders, beeping equipment.

This park is advertised as all ages, but really, its 55+ and there is a clear divide between permanent residents and visitors. There is an updated pool, but it's on the small side and no playground. We didn't even see more than probably two families during our two week stay. They have a clubhouse with pool tables and an old claw machine that they have filled with used stuffed animals.

Would stay here again, but probably for not as long, and it wouldn't be my first choice.

Nice park but nothing for kids. Dog park is not a park but a plot or grass. They are working on the park so demo going on as well as bathroom closures. People there are super nice and a great bunch. Not my top spot.

Sun outdoor marathons has been recently completely updated! The staff was amazing and very attentive. All sites were gravel and level and had full hook ups. Our view was stunning over the marina in the ocean. The daily gathering at sunset at the tiki hut was always a highlight! It would be nice to have some activities like yoga, or kayaks for the residence, but then again, you are in the keys!

Arrival - Really great communication from Lori prior to arrival to ensure everything was lined up and we were met and escorted to our site. Very quick check-in and explanation of rules and amenities.

Tips - Rig registration lane is not marked. You need to pull over into the gravel area just past the pool. Be aware of the Sun Outdoors sign at mile marker 59, if you blink you'll miss it. If you see the Dolphin Research Center, you've gone too far. Choose your site wisely, the farther you are from the road, the quieter it is and the better chance you'll have a sunset site close to the boat launch. When navigating the park and into your site WATCH OUT FOR THE LITTLE BLACK LIGHT POSTS ALL OVER THE PLACE!

Favorites - Nicely redone park, very clean and well appointed for the adults. Huge RV sites along the site #81 row for your 40' plus rigs. Site #35 is tucked away and GINORMOUS. Close to Curry Hammock SP and Marathon. Areas around sites are pretty clear of trees for StarLink satellite acquisition. SUNSETS.

Negatives - The black asphalt everywhere, what's up with that? For this environment, I would have gone with a crushed coquina or cement, makes things very hot on little paws and detracts from the tropical beauty. No marked registration area. Pet area is all the way at the front of the park and VERY small; no other place for your fury kids to do their business. Traffic noise. Getting into site #35 was challenging.
