“the only naturalist-led ecotours”
TropicBird offers the only naturalist-led ecotours of the 10,000 Islands under sail. We specialize in full day luxury private sailboat charters deep into the 10,000 Islands. Trips are led by Patrick Higgins, an NAI Certified Interpretive Guide, USCG licensed Captain, around-the-world sailor and University of Florida accredited Master Naturalist with a combined degree in Biology and Environmental Science. He’s also a regular interpretive speaker and guide at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve. Guests will see, hear and experience nature as intended in complete comfort with only the gurgle of water and gentle breezes across the very stable deck of our 34’ catamaran; TropicBird; as she slips through the pristine waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Due to her exceptional shoal draft (just 18”) she can really reach the back waters. It’s a full day experience with a nice lunch; wine; beer and all refreshments included. Guests can relax or sunbathe on the foredeck or in our shaded cockpit area; which is especially safe for young children. The vessel is particularly child friendly and there are ample napping facilities in their interior cabins which are always cool and airy; while parents enjoy a glass of wine topside. During the trip guests will see dolphins and many of Florida’s fabulous wading birds while learning about the 10;000 Islands’ unique ecosystem. Typically the tour will depart early morning and return late afternoon; depending on tides. We anchor out for lunch in some picturesque spot then dingy ashore to one of the islands for exploration; sailing as much as possible. Pricing is in line with a full day private fishing charter ($660 plus tax for up to 6 guests). Full details can be found on our very extensive website at www.tropicbirdsailing.com. TropicBird does not sell individual places. It’s only a whole vessel charter and is perfect for families; groups of friends; or that special occasion for a couple. All trips are customized to suit each party’s individual preferences; interests and composition. Departures are from Calusa Island Marina in Goodland. Advance reservations are essential (typically several days to avoid disappointment). Visa and MasterCard are accepted. For further details call Patrick Higgins on 239 595 4828.
