Jean Lafitte's six sites are scattered across south Louisiana. Each is unique in its focus, and they all reflect a place where traditions can be generations old but the ground under your feet can change with the weather. The park's sites share the story of a place where change is the only constant, from the waterways that shape the land in new patterns every day to the never-ending balancing act between old ways and new ideas.
Their is actually 5 parks part of this system and we visited 2. The walk in the swamp on a raised boardwalk was a great experience and the staff are super helpful.
Not all parts of the park are open at this time. The one in the city of New Orleans was interesting but very small.
Visit the park store, walk the trails through Louisiana’s wetlands at Barataria Preserve, stroll down a historic carriageway, relax in the courtyard at the French Quarter Visitor Center, and learn how the War of 1812’s Battle of New Orleans shaped American history at the historic battlefield.
This is a really great place and well worth the visit. We think it's one of the best things to do in Louisiana.
