Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge

Bald eagles gather food along the Mississippi River during the winter season; and several communities offer eagle watch activities. Established in 1924; this wildlife refuge stretches from Wabesha; Minn. to the Quad Cities. It encompasses more than 240;000 acres of water; marsh; wooded islands and forest prairie along 261 river miles. Hundreds of species of birds; mammals; reptiles and amphibians; and fish make the refuge their home. Canoe secluded backwaters; camp; fish; hunt; and enjoy bird watching and nature study.
