“step back into 1983”

Come visit a time machine capable of briefly returning visitors to a very specific time and place in their past...the 80s video arcade! America's Playable Arcade Museum is more than just an arcade. It is more than just a museum. This project was conceived and built with the vision of transporting visitors back into their past to experience the euphoria that once resulted from walking into a fully-stocked arcade in 1983. Let's face it, arcades aren't what they used to be. If you can even find one these days, they are filled with pointless simulators, redemption games, and coin-op versions of the latest playstation games. Thanks for all the support you've given us for the last five years. We really appreciate every single person who comes out and plays in our museum. Every quarter helps keep the power bill paid. We appreciate any / all donations we receive. Several of you have given us small financial contributions, and several others have given us a game or two in need of love. We are always here to give love to your unloved arcade machines. We are not officially a "non-profit", but I assure you that we are non-profit in the literal sense of the word...LOL.

About 5 miles down the road from this arcade museum is the Route 66 Arcade Museum, it's owned by the same folks. Definitely leave a donation at both places, these guys are keeping a bit of fun history alive by maintaining these vintage arcade machines.

I had a blast visiting the one in Atlanta, Illinois, the sister-museum. Stumbled upon it totally randomly while on a road trip down Route 66 with my 10-month-old son. Such a treat.

My family loved this place. We arrived first thing in the morning & had to call someone to open it. But, he arrived very quickly and we had the run of the place. So neat to let the kids experience "old fashioned" gaming.

Swung by there on a cross country road trip and relived some great times (and introduced our girls) to playing some fun games. At first, we tried the store in Atlanta, due to posted hours but it was closed. Thankfully, Mr. Yates was there and let us in for a bit to play. He certainly has an impressive collection that's expanding into a new section and we will definitely include it on future road trips and possibly the new feature he has added about a hotel! Makes this old nerd happier than Pac-man eating a power pellet!

A great stop for teen boys and video game addicts. There is a sofa up front for "non-players."
