Established 1783, presently situated on 1,800 acres at Sabbathday Lake. Ironically, the historically smallest and poorest Shaker community is home to the few remaining Shakers. Six of eighteen buildings are open for guided tours. Sunday meeting (worship service) is open to the public. Side trip: Combine this location with a visit to [[Poland Spring]], the fabled nineteenth century spa that lives on as a brand of bottled water.
