Mayor L. Earle Salter pounded the first golden spike into the Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced's Kiddieland train this morning under the watchful eyes of well-wishers, including Diane, 5, and Robbie Busby, 4, The children of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Busby. The spike-pounding highlighted today's grand opening ceremony at Applegate Park. Others driving spikes were Don Blauert, club president; Ken McSwain, past Kiwanis district governor; B. E. Towle, club train chairman; and Norman Herman, Recreation and Parks Commission chairman.
