“Explore the wind cave”

The park contains a large variety of plants and animals that call the lower Sonoran Desert home. Along the most popular feature of the park, the Wind Cave Trail, water seeps from the roof of the alcove to support hanging gardens of Rock Daisy. The Wind Cave is formed at the boundary between the volcanic tuff and granite on Pass Mountain. Breathtaking views from this 2,840-foot elevation are offered to all visitors.

A terrific county park on the far east side of Phoenix. Hiking, biking, a great nature center with various programs and great scenery and birds. Sites were level gravel, easy access and good cell and wi-fi. Most were back in but there were also pull throughs with room for larger rigs. The only ding is that you can hear the Salado Gun Club 1/4 mile away but that stops at sunset plus a bit of traffic noise. Very close to major stores/services/restaurants in Mesa as well as mountains and recreation on the east side.

We stayed 4 nights at Usery Mountain Regional Park. Two nights were in site 62 and two nights were dry camping in the group campground. The park itself is just at the edge of the city of Mesa under the imposing face of Usery Mountain. The desert here is beautiful and there was a great assortment of flora and fauna. We saw a large variety of birds and heard coyotes howling under the moonlight. Great trails for hiking.

The facilities are excellent, bathrooms and showers clean. Sites don't have sewage but the dump station was easy to access on our way out.

The only downside to this park is its proximity to the city. You could hear some traffic noise throughout the day. Also site 62 is adjacent to site 8 with no privacy if you're bothered by that type of thing. If that's the case though, most other sites had better privacy.

The other problem was a management issue. You are issued a vehicle tag when you arrive and there are two lanes available at the entry kiosk but the park management blocked off the outer bypass lane at times. This meant that when you returned to your site after leaving the park you risked having to wait in line while people were registered.

Wonderful desert park with a wilderness feel, all within minutes of city conveniences. Spacious, private sites (mostly), clean restrooms and showers, friendly staff, incredible views in all directions. Close to Loop 202, which goes everywhere you need to go (we took the family to a DBacks game and to the zoo and were home from each in about 30 minutes). It is true that a shooting range nearby is a bit distracting, but is far outweighed by the park's advantages, which include great hiking and biking.

This is a nice Maricopa County Park only a few miles from Mesa AZ. There's quite a lot of space between sites, mostly filled with tall/mature cacti and other desert plants. The back-in sites have their "camping area" (picnic table, fire pit, open space) behind the site instead of next to it. The bath houses are about average, but each has only two men's showers and two women's showers so we sometimes had to wait to take a shower, even though the campground was only half full. There's a short "nature trail" in the campground, and several hikes starting at the trailhead a mile or so from the campground. There's plenty of places to walk dogs, but we also took our dogs into Mesa a few times to the huge and popular dog park there. We enjoyed the large, private sites and the proximity to town/shopping, and will stay here again.

We needed to post up for a couple of weeks so my wife could attend to some family affairs, so we found this campground after a short search. It is 4 or 5 miles from Mesa. The campground is extremely well run. Every site has water and power. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. We've seen bobcats, coyotes and roadrunners. There are many hiking trails nearby as well as places to ride bikes. This has been a real gem. Note: there is a large gun range not far away, You WILL hear gunfire, constantly. If you stay at the southern end of the campground, it's less noticeable.

Glamping = Water + Electric and 2 dumping stations.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend 2016, in our 30 ft. gas Class A, plus our truck. The park was full for the holiday, yet fairly quiet. Our site was near Group Camping, so we heard the sounds of families until 10pm quiet time, but that didn't bother us. Our site was very spacious, and walking distance to the showers. We had both a grill and a fire ring, and a concrete picnic table. The park is near the Lower Salt River and Saguaro Lake for fishing, kayaking, and picnicking. And, near east Mesa, where we met a friend for dinner. The Camp Hosts were very nice. We highly recommend this park and will return. NOTE: Lots of Teddy Bear Cholla around, so watch your pets and kiddos.

Recreational shooters and archery enthusiasts will be thrilled to have top-notch facilities near this campground.

This was our first stay in this particular Maricopa County Park. We were fortunate to get 14 nights in one spot during the very busy season of February. We booked the first day we could with the 6 month advance window. The park was completely full, every night. Our inside the south loop site was private and far enough away from the rifle range that the sound was not unpleasant. Note to visitors: if you find the sound of rapid-fire semiautomatic shots on a Sunday morning disconcerting, pick another park. This is the only reason we give it a 4. The bathrooms are spectacularly clean and the showers are private rooms. Hot water. New and all working. Close to Mesa and at the foothills of the Superstittion Mountains and close to the amazing Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the Tonto National Monument Cliff Dwellings. Saguaro forest is lovely. Watched the full moon rise from our campsite on a gorgeous clear Arizona evening.

We loved this park for its location to hikes and open space. Camp hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. Sites do not offer too much privacy but all are relatively large and offer great mountain views. Make sure to bike the property, hike to Wind Cave take in a sunset over the city lights.

Great county parked tucked out of the hustle and bustle of Mesa (if there is a hustle and bustle in Mesa)...with electric and water hookup. Basically you feel away from the city, but close enough to do shopping and do other things. The site space for your rig is nice and there is nice space in-between sites as well. It's close to Phoenix, Mesa and Apache Junction so there is a lot to do in the area. The only words of caution that we would have would be to be alert for pack rats, as we discovered two in our engine, but luckily no damage and we took precautionary steps our next couple of days to keep them out. And pack rats in the desert are inevitable so, not unique to Usery at all. Overall, a great park in a great location.

Close to Phoenix and Scottsdale, but far enough to feel out in nature, this was another great Arizona state park. The only negative I can think of is there is a gun range nearby as some others have mentioned. It didn't really bother me personally but if you are looking for complete quiet, it may bug you. It wasn't that busy when I was there, I could see it being a bit annoying if it got busy.

The sites are very large and clean gravel. The campground was spotless, along with the bathrooms and showers. There's a dump onsite. They don't offer any FHU sites.

There are great hiking trails where you can hike a mile or 10 miles...easy to hard, whatever you want. The hiking trails were wide enough to not have cactus problems for the dog's paws which has been a problem at some places in the past. There are a lot of coyotes nearby. I could hear them howling in the dark hours so watch your pets. Also ran across a rattlesnake in the middle of the road while walking around camp. This is Arizona after all.

Cell service on ATT was unexplainably spotty. I even had issues once I got outside the park when I was in town shopping. Verizon jetpack was stable but slow...download speeds fluctuated between good times at 8 mbps to bad times less than 2 mbps. T mobile jetpack was consistently good.

Laundry...went to Superstition laundry. They were a little high price but it was very clean. As far as laundromats go ....solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
