“a seasonal oceanfront resort”
Casa Claridge’s enjoys a rich history, originally having opened its doors in 1928 as El Paraiso Apartments. Martin L. Hampton, the architect, was educated at Columbia University in New York and travelled extensively in Spain becoming a master of the Mediterranean Revival style, which he adapted to the Floridian landscape after settling in Miami in 1914. Shortly after, Hampton partnered with Miami Beach real estate pioneer John Collins and his family to develop a portion of their extensive land holdings as a seasonal oceanfront resort in Miami’s mid-Beach area. El Paraiso Apartments became an exquisite seaside retreat that catered to the well-heeled clientele of the 1920’s and 1930’s.
