Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on November 15, 2018Me and my family tent camped here in May 2018. The road (Morphy Lake Rd.) to the campground from highway 94 in Ledoux was a dirt road, slightly uphill, but manageable. A few larger rigs were camped here.
It is a beautiful area, and the lake is back dropped by the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Very peaceful, quiet, far from civilization. A few hiking trails surround the lake, and in the early mornings, the lake is busy with casual fisherman.
In May the night temps did dip to chilly for tent camping despite the 75 degree day. I would camp here again but maybe in the Summer as it is in the mountains and is cooler than lower elevations.
The closest big town is Las Vegas, an hour away.

I really hate to share this campground. We were passing through Mora, the closest little town and were directed to this park. At 8,000 feet the summer weather was perfect. Not only is it difficult to drive into this park (Max length 18') it's down right scary. One lane curvy dirt road. We lucked out and met no one coming out, but not sure what we would have done, if we did. Small Lake with lots of local fishermen, but quiet family style. DRY CAMPING, but I must say those were the cleanest pit toilets I've ever seen. No dump station. No Host.
Nice trails around the lake, hike with a trash bag, as unfortunately some fisher people are not tidy.
This is one of those places you'll go to again. and be prepared to stay a while.
From website: Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 8,000 feet in elevation, this hidden lake sits at the edge of the Pecos Wilderness. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and offers excellent fishing. Canoeing is also a popular activity and this pristine scenic spot offers a unique opportunity for primitive camping. Due to parking and campsite size limitations, maximum RV length allowed is 18 feet.
