Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on December 27, 2018Lake Ouachita State Park was a very pleasant experience! The campground was quiet despite being almost at 100% capacity. There was some lake noise during the day, but that's expected given the boating destination that is Ouachita. The campground host was incredibly hospitable, as was the Visitor Center employee that thankfully provided me much needed coffee. If you've made it this far in the review...know this...come for the lake, but stay for the sunsets - absolutely spectacular (especially after a storm). The 4-mile Caddo Bend Trail is only 0.4 miles from the campground, and it is an absolute must if staying at the campground. Get sweaty on the hike, then take a dip in the water to cool off. :-)
The park is a smaller park but all RV sites have 50 amp and sewer. The bathrooms are very clean as well as the park. If you want to visit Hot Springs, it is only about 30 min from the park. The biggest drawback at the park is lack of cell phone service. We only had 1 bar at the campsite and could only send/receive text. We could get a phone call if outside the camper. Also, we don't have satellite TV and therefore, we had no local channels we could receive at our camper. You can rent boats, kayaks and canoes at the marina. We did rent a ski boat and really enjoyed getting to experience the lake.

NOTE: Review is on Campground D - Non-electric
Arriving Saturday (10/8/16), we were glad we made a reservation - campground was full! There was no entrance fee to the state park. Campsites were rather close to each other, but it was not bad. Campground area D was more for tent camping, and there are nice lifted, level pads with pea gravel for tents. Also the site's "driveway" where you park was asphalted (at least ours was).
Each site had a large fire ring with grill grate that covered about 1/3, and it could be swung back off the ring. Each site also had a grill, a tall pole with 4 hooks & picnic table on cement slab. Some sites were open with views of the hills & partial views of the lake; others were in the woods. By Sunday afternoon, most campers (in campground D) had left, and we practically had the place to ourselves.
The bath house in D had 2 large showers & 3 toilet stalls, 1 regular sink with counter & 1 handicapped-accessible sink. There was also an electrical outlet next to the sink & one outside on the wall between the men & women's entrances.
Caddo Bend Trail offers a great hike through the trees, the brush, & goes past awesome views of the lake. If you don't want to hike the whole trail, you can head back to the campground on the service road.
There are two boat launches, and we enjoyed kayaking & exploring the shoreline in multiple spots. We even kayaked out to an island which was pretty cool. We definitely want to come back to Lake Ouachita again!

During the Winter in Feb 2017 I rented a RV and went to Lake Ouachita with my 4 and 5 year old along with my wife. I am a 46 year old professional and my wife and I both work in the medical field. At 11pm with a relatively empty camp ground. A young woman Ranger came walking up to my camp site in the dark of the night and gave me a $370 criminal citation for my Golden Retrievers being off the leash. A criminal offense I emphasize. No complaints had been made by any campers. Up until now I have had a clean criminal record and no traffic violations for over 10 years. I have camped from Yellowstone Park, WY to John Pennekamp Park, FL Keys and never had a negative encounter with law enforcement. I think if you are looking for a pleasant camping experience you may be better off going to North Korea.
Spacious sites...clean and well maintained..staff very friendly and helpful...trails are nice...no swimming allowed in lake... 4 bars of 3G for Verizon with cell booster...2 bars without booster... We will be back...

We had a wonderful time at this park. The staff was extremely friendly. We were able to move sites when a site on the waterfront became available without any frustration or hesitation on their part. We stayed on site 56 which had easy water access for us to use our kayaks, for us to go swimming, or just simply to have a view of the water. There were lots of fun things for the kids to do and we even took a sunset boat ride to learn more about the lake. We will definitely be back to Lake Ouachita.

I'll get my complaints out first. Their check in/out policy was pretty wonky, it's at the same time! It was either 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Lot's of locals camp here so they are in NO hurry to check out and leave. The whole park was stacked up with people waiting on sites to vacate. The rangers finally showed up about 30 minutes AFTER the check out time and forced the people to move out. The people in our site were only moving over 1 site but the campers in that site were out getting in one last ride around the lake in their boat. Seemed to be an unnecessary cluster to me. And since sites were literally filling up the moment they became available, there is no time for them to be cleaned. Ours was a little trashy.
The lake is BEAUTIFUL!!! We were able to kayak around the lake and it was very relaxing. Our bath house was clean but heavily used. It was hard for the staff to keep them clean. We usually use the bath house as opposed to our camper, but not here.
Site was paved and level. Internal roads well maintained. Easy site to back in to.
The park itself was clean, the campground section was not.

This is one of the best state parks we’ve stayed in. We’re were in a AAA (FHU) site with 50 AMP. The roads and sites in this section are paved. The site was long enough to accommodate our 42 ft 5th wheel and parking for our F350 DRW. The sites are extremely spacious, includes a fire pit and picnic table, and has a tent pad. The park is heavily treed and there is some maneuvering required when towing through the park, but nothing major. All the utilities worked great. The lake is beautiful and clean with several access areas from the campground. While we didn’t use the bath houses they were cleaned by the park staff multiple times per day. It’s about a 20 minute drive to the heart of Hot Springs and the cellular service (AT&T and Verizon) was very poor or non-existent in most of the campground. There are a few locations noted on the map considered cell phone areas. So it was a challenge to get work done, but not impossible. However, we would absolutely stay here again.
