“Wild Beauty on the Lake Superior Shore”

Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, lakes, forest, and shoreline beckon you to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hiking, camping, sightseeing, and four season outdoor opportunities abound. The Lakeshore hugs the Lake Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. Lake Superior is the largest, deepest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes. Unlike any other place on Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks offers the opportunity to explore miles of pristine beaches, hike over 100 miles of trails, and experience the serenity of the northern hardwood forest. In the spring, a new world appears along trails carpeted with the soft beauty of wildflowers. Summer gives way to warm basking days. Blinking lights of orange, red, and yellow signal the wonder of change in autumn. In the winter, the raw windy beauty of snow frequents the days though periodically the snow blazes forth with sunlight. Take time to experience and learn about the different worlds of Pictured Rocks, a mosaic of colors, textures, and sights. Enjoy your stay! In 1992, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore began installing photovoltaic powered well pump systems at its drive-in campgrounds. All remote water wells within the lakeshore are now solar-powered.

Pictured Rocks is a pretty cool spot with some spectacular views! I just can't give it a 5 because it can be rather difficult to see just how amazing it is without going on a boat tour or kayak trip. It is basically just an area of coast line with cool looking cliffs and lots of waterfalls! The waterfalls are definitely the highlight but the actual cliffs are hard to get to!

Just hiking this beautiful shore isn't enough in my opinion to capture 100% of the absolute true beauty Pictured Rocks has to offer! I highly recommended doing a boat tour if you really want some amazing photos of Pure Michigan!

I LOVE Pictured Rocks. The views are beautiful. The camping is very rustic. There are different environments throughout the hikes. One moment you're trudging through a mud path, the next you are at a beautiful beach. The trails are really great. There are times of the year you can catch the Northern Lights.

The options are endless. You can take a boat cruise, which I would recommend the sunset cruise. The sun beams off of the rocks and it is breath taking. http://www.picturedrocks.com/fares-schedule/

You can also kayak to view the rocks. There are a lot of different places that offer these types of tours. I would go with a guided group as they will provide the proper kayak for lake superior and will not guide you out in dangerous weather. An inland lake kayak is a no go on the might superior.

You can also hike above the pictured rocks, go down tot chapel beach and miners beach and get amazing views. There are many water falls in the area too.

My favorite hidden gem is tannery falls. It is sneaky to get to, but you wont be disappointed.

One of my favorite spots in the US. Beautiful lakeshore, and the rocky shore is so different from one spot to another. The kids like hiking here and swimming as we go, when possible. And the backpacking trails are well kept up.

Gorgeous views of the cliffs and lake superior, absolutely loved it! We hiked through the forest from Miners castle to an amazing beach where we laid out in the sun. Be sure to bring your bathing suits!

I have been visiting every year for the last 6 years during the 4th of July holiday. Last year we came up in the fall and plan to do the same this year. Absolutely love God's Country! It is breathtakingly beautiful! So much to see and do. A nature lover's paradise!
