“started way back in 1954”
Established in 1954, and known as “The Big Variety Show,” the Pioneer Auto Show and Prairie Town in Murdo, South Dakota, provides families a trip through the history of 20th century America with its more than 250 classic cars, motorcycles, tractors and bicycles.Prairie Town continues the adventure; offering visitors a rendezvous with the past via self-guided tours through early renditions of a Midwestern, turn of the century town, complete with depot, bank, and school.
Fun little stop for lunch and kitsch. Lunch was okay but a little pricey but nice atmosphere.
A neat place with a lot of history of more than just cars.
Lots to look at. They also had a treasure hunt for the kids which helped entertain them and let grownups look a little longer
great collection second visit in 15 years
The collection on show here is huge, way too big for the space available, so things get a little crammed in together and important cars get left in carports because there's no healthier place to keep them. But the scope of the exhibition is tremendous, & it's well worth the price of admission.
Even if you don't know a ton about cars, you'll be charmed by their collection of automobiles from the 1910's-1980's. And if that doesn't do it for you, they also have collections of old toys and other kitschy memorabilia, and a little recreation of a Wild West town for kids to explore!
It was a great stop for the family. There is a diner attached and they have a treasure hunt for the kids. If your into cars or antiques this is a perfect stop!
