“a quintessential New England experience”

What is Mystic Seaport? Ask three people and chances are you’ll get three very different answers. To some, it’s a fun family destination offering hands-on activities and special events. To others, it’s a world-renowned maritime museum featuring exhibit halls and historical interpreters. And to still others, it’s an incredibly valuable education and research center. In fact, it’s all three – located within 19 charming acres on the banks of Connecticut’s legendary Mystic River. A quintessential New England experience, Mystic Seaport offers visitors of all ages a unique link to our seafaring past and endless, year-round opportunities to immerse themselves in new worlds of hands-on history.

Your visit with us starts at the Visitor Reception Center.  Welcome to The Museum of America and the Sea. If you have found your way here, it is probably because you either have a love for the sea and all things maritime or you were looking to provide your family with an authentic and memorable experience.
We invite you to make a personal visit to Mystic Seaport and to take in all that the Museum has to offer. Whether it be a weekend visit to the WoodenBoat Show or the Sea Music Festival, a visit by boat, or a stroll around campus in the waning hours of a crisp fall day, the Mystic Seaport experience is a remarkable one! In my short time here (January 2009), I have come to fully appreciate the magnificent collection, the dedicated and talented staff, and the unique impact of the Mystic River on our museum community. I hope you will, too. Come linger here at Mystic Seaport. Go back in time yet thrive in the present. There's nothing quite like it!

Hours of fun for the whole family! Take a trip back to the 19 century and enjoy learning and seeing many things. You can explore old ships, learn about the smith shop, take a carriage ride, and many other things. Buy the mystic passport and gain admission to the aquarium also and get your receipt validated and return again within a few days.

Mystic Seaport is a lot of fun. You could easily spend an entire day there There are several different parts to visit including going on a whaling boat and inside a lighthouse. Throughout the day there are events such as harpooning and rope making. It is on the expensive side and the price can quickly add up if you want to take a boat ride, visit the planetarium, or participate in craft making.
