“President Andrew Jackson's Home”
The Hermitage is reputedly our nation’s most authentically preserved early presidential home site. The museum includes original artwork, furniture, textiles, personal items, wallpapers, and much more. It is one of the oldest and largest historic site museums in the United States. Since opening in 1889, some 15 million people have crossed its threshold and marveled at its beauty. The Hermitage has evolved into a sprawling 1,120-acre National Historic Landmark property including a 25,000 square-foot visitor’s center. Plan your trip to visit today!
The Hermitage was a great stop on our vacation. The self-guided tour was fascinating. The guides inside the house were friendly and informative. The house was amazing. We learned a lot about President Jackson, though his actions towards Native Americans and slaves is white washed a bit.
A fun and educational experience for the whole family. My 6 and 11 year old boys loved it!
This place is closed up Don’t bother going. We drove out of our way to see it! Very disappointed.
It was closed but website said it was opened 😢
I do love visiting historic sites. And there are few as uniquely beautiful as the Hermitage. Sprawling grounds, a stunning home, and interesting installations abound. Is it cheap? No. But well worth it considering all there is to see and do at this wonderful site. Whether you just want to browse the gift shop and museum or take a tour of the grounds and President Jackson’s home itself, there’s a little something for everyone. For my wife and I, we preferred the tour of the main house and the garden. And on the day we visited, children from the local elementary school were acting as docents, reciting what they’d learned in their history classes. Adorable.
It was hard to bite the bullet and pay $20 for the tour, but it's a really great experience. I'm a total history nerd, and everything was really well done. In the end, you can spend a lot of time on the property and make it worth the price.
