“East Nashville epicurean restaurant and cocktail lounge”
Holland House Bar & Refuge, the first restaurant opened in Nashville from chef/barman Terry Raley, offers a seasonal dining experience in the heart of East Nashville, now known as the city's "it" destination for culinary artistry. At the heart of HHB&R's concept is a passion shared by Executive Chef Kristin Beringson and highly-decorated head bartender Jeremiah Blake, to invent combinations of new and traditional flavors, utilizing the freshest, of-the-season ingredients. Chef Beringson's cuisine is characterized by classic French technique and elegant plating, a fondness for Mediterranean flavors, and an unwavering commitment to flawless execution. Start with a cocktail at our bar, internationally renowned for superior proprietary cocktails and house-made ingredients, and find the hospitality as gracious as the cocktails are inspired. Dine al fresco on our large patio, enjoy some complimentary truffled popcorn with a barrel-aged negroni by the fire, or host a private event for up to 100 of your closest friends in the James Room. If you're feeling adventurous, try the potted marrow with black garlic and preserved lemon, or the mangalitsa belly with candied magadamia. Join us each Thursday night for Happy Hour until close, but be sure to make a reservation quickly, as it has become a Nashville institution. Terry Raley and his restaurants have been featured in Southern Living, Entrepreneur Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine, and the New York Times. Also an award-winning classical guitarist, he parallels the creative freedom in the restaurant venue with that of a musical performance. Born a Tennesseean, and raised a Texan, he favors a well-conceptualized and relaxed bar + kitchen experience defined by the principles of sustainability, both from an in-house product and a real estate perspective, preferring to renovate historic structures. Look for his third restaurant, Butchertown Hall, in the historic Germantown area of Nashville, Fall 2014.
A big square bar sits just inside the entrance of Holland House, the first indicator that the drinks are the focus here. Leather-bound menus list a range of cocktails, from classics to new combinations, and the friendly, usually bearded bartenders are happy to share their favorite gin or rye of the moment. Pair your cocktail with bar snacks like smoked-lamb tacos and truffle frites.
