“meet bobber, the water dog!”

An expansive view and good fishing beckon you to Summit Lake State Park, near New Castle. More than 2,680 acres, including a large lake, await your visit. Facilities include 125 electric campsites, three boat ramps, a beach bathhouse and two large open shelters that can be reserved for family picnics and other events.Summit Lake has an excellent bird watching and wildlife observation area. The property has always been an important area for waterfowl because of the many low-lying wet meadows and prairies. Migratory species have included rare species like the black tern, bald eagle, sandhill crane, American bittern, least bittern, king rail and osprey.Zeigler Woods, in the southwest corner of the park, is Henry County’s first nature preserve. Zeigler Woods has rich flora and fauna with little evidence of human disturbance.Water safety matters! If you use one of our big reservoirs for swimming, fishing, boating or skiing, check out Bobber the Water Dog, brought to you by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Spent a night in late April. Beautiful lake, seems like good fishing! Clean park and decent facilities with plenty of room left for nature!!

First, the staff at this campground are super friendly and helpful! This campground was overall nice. The location was perfect to get away into nature, or drive a little bit into Indianapolis; which is what we did. There was not much privacy between sites, and our site was VERY difficult to back into due to a few trees and other obstacles in the way (and we only have a 21 ft travel trailer). It was very stressful.

We loved the close proximity to the lake and the location of the park. If we ever come back to this campground it will definitely be in a different site.

We stayed here two nights. The park is clean. The bathrooms were good. Plenty of space for kids to play. Lake is great. You can rent boats. Camp store was far away from the camp site. You’d have to drive or bike there. AT&T cell service was good. Data and voice worked great.

Though we were here only overnight, we would come back again and stay longer. The sites along the lake are the best and have lots of shade!

We've been to Summit Lake several times before, but have never stayed at the campground. The hiking is great. We've taken a boat out before. This time, however, the smell of sewage was strong as soon as we entered the campground. We had a site with water, but it ran brown. Needless to say, we kept our windows shut and used bottled water instead of site water for cooking, drinking, and brushing teeth. Hopefully they correct the issue soon.
