“honoring the first American to orbit the Earth”

Its mission is to honor the first American to orbit the Earth and his partnership with a remarkable woman. We teach about life during the Great Depression and the Home Front during WWII. The Historic Site is administered by a volunteer Board of Trustees representing the village of New Concord, East Muskingum School District, and Muskingum College.

It look like a cute place for me outside. It's right by the railroad track and would be a nice place for the kids to stop and run around. There's a cute place to eat right there called The Crumb and Cup Cafe. We tried to go to the museum on Wednesday, March 23 at 12:30 pm and it was closed. It's easy to get right back on 70 so it would've been a nice stop. Just be sure to call before you go to make sure they're open.

The boyhood home of the First american to orbit the earth, it is filled with memorabilia from the space age and the historic flights of the Mercury 7. Well worth a visit if you're a die hard space fan like myself. Tickets are cheap for kids and only 7 bucks for adults so it won't break the bank. The house also hosts "Space Camps" for kids occasionally that is a cool little treat for the young ones.

We went there some time ago and found it very interesting. Two other nearby places of interest along the old Nation Road US40 just west of New Concord is an historic "S" bridge made of stone only a couple of minutes west. Also only about 8-10 minutes west near Norwich is the Zane Grey Museum which is also very interesting and worth a look.

What a delightful museum. They had this young man who gave the tour of the house as John Glenn as a teenager. He was so knowledgeable and engaging. The rest of the staff was welcoming and gave us a good amount of time to ask questions and to look at all of the memorabilia. Definitely worth the stop!

PLANNING ON RETURNING - We visited the museum back in 2019 and just loved it. So many interesting artifacts and the tour was well done. We plan on taking our parents with us to see their reaction in regards to the historical aspect. Will follow-up after our return.
