“a restaurant all about family”
A husband and wife team, Dick and Jenny Benz modeled this intimate Uptown restaurant after some of their favorites here and abroad. The restaurant is casual, taking no reservations, but equipped with a bar and an outdoor patio if one has to wait to be seated. The food is best described as American Regional with eclectic European overtones. Dick changes the a la carte menu every two months allowing the menu to feature seasonal specialties like soft shell crabs in spring and game in the fall. Dick and Jenny’s strong suits are value and quality. The wine list and the food are priced so that locals can easily enjoy the restaurant more than once a week, and often do. But above all, the restaurant is about a family - a family of people working together to create a family of regulars that defines that something special about the best restaurants in New Orleans. One block uptown from the corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas, where century old live oaks shadow the famous music club Tipitina’s, sits a mid-nineteenth century barge board cottage with burgundy clap boards and yellow shutters. Dinner plates line the walls and bear the names of Dick and Jenny’s founding customers. Originally a grocery store, and later a po-boy shop, this funky New Orleans original is a gathering place for those who seek fine dining cuisine in a casual, comfortable and affordable setting. A small hand painted sign on the building hangs above the flower baskets and simply says “Dick & Jenny’s.”
