“all beauty, no beast”
The castle referred to as the fishermans castle is in fact a fishing camp built on the Irish Bayou a sleepy little fishing retreat outside of New Orleans. It was well talked about when it was originally constructed about 15 years ago. At a cost of over 100,000.00, its no wonder the size of the poured concrete structure could not be larger. It is easily seen from Interstate 10 once you have crossed the twin span traveling south. Just look to the east after crossing the hwy 11 bridge. In 2005, the Fisherman's Castle was basically the only thing left standing on Irish Bayou after Katrina. Despite the 140-mile winds that hit Slidell and NOE directly.
Great stop on our way out of New Orleans. Loved the Irish Bayou area. Much more calm than “downtown” New Orleans.
Quick drive by. Cool to see.
Be sure to follow the link above! The description says this castle was built 15 years ago- however the article, featuring an interview with the owners, says it was built in 1981. Big difference!
