“remembering the victims of 9/11”

The 9/11 Memorial remembers and honors the 2,983 people who were killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two reflecting pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees.

The 9/11 Memorial Museum will display monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning, and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 and 1993 attacks and the aftermath.

A beautiful memorial... I found it incredibly moving and an immensely powerful experience to just sit there and let the enormity and significance of the memorial soak in. I will make a point of visiting every time Im in NYC.

As an American, visiting this memorial will have a very real impact on you. It's massive and it's beautiful, and has a peaceful effect on you. Words can't really describe the experience, but it's one you have to experience (I put this on the top of the list of things tourists need to do in NYC). Buy tickets online ahead of time, where you can also make a donation.

The museum is full of videos, audio recordings, building pieces, vehicles, etc. you could spend at least half a day looking at it all. It can be quite emotional so bring tissue. Your tickets, which should be purchased online have an arrival time. Make sure you get there then as you and your "group" all go through security and a film in the beginning.

There are twin reflecting pools which have the names of the 2,983 people who died on 9/11, and the names of the victims of the 1993 bombing. The memorial is free, but the number of daily visitors is limited. But once you're in, you welcome to stay as long as the memorial is open (til 8PM).

The museum is not open yet but the memorial is. Expect high security (airport style body scanners, etc.) and long lines. Purchase your tickets before you go to save time waiting in line.

Very well done. Go. Hear the personal stories of that awful day. No visit to NYC is complete without adding this to your itinerary.
