“Jewish legacies in Spanish Cooking”
La Vara celebrates the Moorish and Jewish legacies in Spanish Cooking. Chef Alex Raij and Eder Montero, chefs and owners of Manhattan's premier Spanish restaurants El Quinto Pino and Txikito, extend their story in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. One of the best places in New York to grab a gin and tonic. La Vara uses their own homemade quinine syrup with a variety of gins, not to mention the addition of a horse's neck lemon peel that straddles the glass.
My sister has been obsessed with this place since they opened, it's a Spanish-Jewish-Moorish tapas restaurant and is absolutely delicious. Their menu is super unique, with combos like crispy eggplant with honey, melted cheese, and nigella seed or fried artichokes with anchovy aioli. You can eat really well and have a drink or two for around $50 a head. A bit on the pricey side if you aren't accustomed to NYC prices, but definitely worth it if you're looking to treat yourself.
