“Food & Drink in New York, NY”
If there’s any one word that you don’t want to hear when describing your food, it’s probably mold. Mold is gross, and usually a sign of something pretty nasty going on in the kitchen. Well at NYC’s swanky Mexican food restaurant, Toloache, corn mold is on the menu… but don't worry, it's absolutely delicious, and not even the weirdest thing you can find on the menu. A recent favorite dish among guests is the corn-mold tacos, which are exactly what they sound like. A taco containing a very carefully measured amount of, you guessed it, mold. “Mexican truffles” as they're also known, are a delicious delicacy in Mexico, and have a “mushroom-like, sweet, savory, woody, and earthy” flavor. Yum! Grasshopper tacos, or Tacos de Chapulin, aren’t particularly common, but according to guests brave enough to down a bug-filled taco or two, theyare delicious. Crunchy and salty, these little guys are also chock-full of protein, so there you go, health nuts. Don’t worry, culinary wusses, Tolache has plenty of delicious food for you too, like authentic margaritas, delicious Langosta Tacos, and desserts that could make anyone cheat on their diet. Don’t let the mold and grasshoppers scare you away! -Roadtrippers Another crowd favorite are the Grasshopper Tacos. Yes, you read that correctly, I said grasshoppers. In places like Oaxaca, Mexico, grasshoppers are also a delicacy, and it’s pretty obvious they are in New York City as well, as the restaurant can hardly keep them on the menu during the weekends. Toloache is Julian Medina's Midtown Mexican Gem. A bistro with fantastic authentic Mexican cuisine, it also offers an expansive selection of Tequilas and imaginative Margaritas!
