“where every night is family night”
Vinny and Sonny Chiarello originally opened their doors as "Luigi's Pizza and Subs" in Newport News, Virginia, over 20 years ago. They began their business based on their family influences, cooking was a passion of their parents and extended family. Growing up, they learned early on the importance of great food and the tradition sharing meals with loved ones in groups both large and small. With their passion for cooking, Vinny and Sonny thought they would try their hands at making pizza and subs, and in 1987 they made their debut. Vinny and Sonny moved to Newport News from Queens, New York, in 1986. From their humble beginnings in a small location just down the road from where they are currently located. They have grown their business into a successful full-service restaurant specializing in authentic Italian cuisine, and have added American favorites including a variety of steak and seafood entrées. Sonny firmly states, "every night is family night at Luigi's." We've been working very hard for the last 20 years, and we appreciate all of our customers. We hope that our tradition continues for 20 more years and beyond. We would like to thank our customers who have become more like family, and appreciate their patronage tremendously." In the kitchen, you can find Vinny preparing his favorite dishes. All of the food is fresh and prepared daily, including signature Italian desserts, giving special attention and detail to everything that is served to their guests. It is not surprising that almost every dish is served with such generous portions that Luigi's recently coined the term: "leftovers happen." Vinny notes: "Not only do people love to eat here but they also love to hang out here." In it's classic Italian style members of the Chiarello family are present at all times, like the old days, there is a table at which you can find "the family" conversing. There are so many friends that come to visit that often on Friday night, a special table is set up in the lounge for shared dining, drinks and conversation. It is quite a lively bunch. One favorite guest recently shared his opinion about Luigi's, he said: "the food, the atmosphere, and the company,..it's is just like the movie, The Perfect Storm." Inside the walls are painted with images of classic Italian images, a reminder of their Italian heritage. There is a feeling of warmth and quaintness all around. As Vinny works hard in the kitchen, Sonny goes around from table to table laughing and telling jokes making the customers feel as though they are part ofthe family. The guests return week after week and that is a sure sign that Luigi's Italian Restaurant is a crowd pleaser. Come by and say hello, before you know it, you will become "part of the Luigi's family" too.
