Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park was the first major Vietnam memorial in the United States. It is currently the only state park dedicated exclusively to veterans of the Vietnam War. It is located off United States Highway 64 in Angel Fire (Colfax County) in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway of northeastern New Mexico.
It’s not easy to miss the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park off Hwy 64. We stopped it to see what it was all about. The memorial appears to have been the brainchild of a grieving (wealthy) parent who lost his son in Viêt Nam. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and very well done. There is a chapel, a small amphitheater, a museum, a gift store, and a veteran’s cemetery (still under construction). The museum is fairly large with many interesting items. Very glad we stopped by.
