“On the mighty Chesapeake”

Elk Neck is your year-round, travel destination to connect with the vast landscapes and waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The park boasts 2,188 acres of sandy beaches, marshlands, and heavily wooded bluffs overlooking the North East River, the Elk River and the Chesapeake Bay. As a result, there are several journeys you can take while in the park. One journey takes you on a hike out to Turkey Point Lighthouse, a signature landmark of the park. The lighthouse is located at the southern tip of the Elk Neck peninsula. On Saturdays and Sundays (April through November between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), you can climb up to the top of the 35-foot tall lighthouse and learn more about the history of the lighthouse from one of the park’s dedicated volunteers.Built in 1833, this historic lighthouse sits atop a 100-foot high bluff overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. The lighthouse pointed the way to safe waters for nearly 175 years. Many incredible tales unfolded right here under the watchful beacon of the Turkey Point Lighthouse: stories of heroism, daunting challenges, and even tragedy. This lighthouse has been part of Chesapeake Bay history for generations, safeguarding people who have lived, worked, and traveled here.

This is a very nicely spread out campground, with large spacious sites. The park offers several camping loops - some with electric, some without. Some allow pets and some don't - so select carefully.

It's heavily wooded, so if you're solar dependent you likely won't get much power here.

It rained most of the time during our stay, so we didn't get to explore the park as much as we would have liked. But the hike out to the lighthouse is well worth it.

The only odd thing about this campground is they have a 12' welcoming entry way to enter. If your RV is taller than this, they do offer a side lane. We arrived after hours, and it was not locked - so not a problem. But just odd to build a campground with such a restriction.

We stayed at the Chester loop with electric only. No pets. The pedestal had 20,30 & 50 amp service. Washrooms were very clean and modern. Outdoors dishwashing area behind the washroom. Sites are kinda close together and some wouldn't have fit our 28 ft travel trailer. Some sites would have been hard to maneuver into also. I had to run my front wheel over a 5" tall tree stump to get into site 226.

There were some nice cabins in our loop also with bunks, a bed and AC. Outside cooking area.

The Northeast loop has full hookups with pets allowed. We saw some big rigs there and some pull-thru sites too. Not all sites would be accessible to larger units though.

The Camp store wasn't open (because of Covid), but ice and firewood were available on honor system. The park is located on the Elk River. Nice setting except that constant noise of go-fast boats all day and all evening. Maybe because it was the 4th of July. Like being next to a drag strip.

Nice hike to Turkey Point lighthouse but you have to drive a couple of miles to get there. Other trails in the camping area but we didn't try any.

Really nice, level site, easy back in. Full hookups and pets allowed. We're in a 31' Class A. There's a fence on part of the perimeter so we set up ex-pens and our dogs had a very large area to move about freely. Neighbors weren't too close and the way the site was set up provided a visual block so our three dogs, who are new to camping, didn't see a lot of activity and were easy to keep quiet.
There's a beach less than a mile or so away that's open to dogs on the off season and they loved playing in the fresh water. The view at the beach is gorgeous.

Verizon cell service was mostly non-existent. I could text one night, but that was it. Phone would connect and then drop.

This is a very quiet and peaceful campground -- caveat, though, that I was there during the week. There is a variety of types of sites, from tents to small rig to larger pull-throughs with some being more secluded than others. The North East Loop as full hookups and the electric was clean and the water pressure very good. The park store is closed Mon - Wed (while I was there) but they sell firewood and ice on an honor-system basis. My site was relatively level and it seems most of them are that way. They also have a Nature Center but that was closed as well for renovations. We camped at Elk Neck State Park in a Motorhome.

Backed 21’ camper van onto a wide level site that overlooked the Elk River. The site had plenty of privacy and a trail leading down to the red sand beach on a lovely little cove. A Bald Eagle flew overhead, and Canada Geese floated just off shore. The camping peninsula was well forested, but my site had plenty of sunshine.
The staff was very cheerful and helpful in all interactions.
The campground was packed on the weekend, but mass Sunday exodus left just a few scattered around.
Bath house was clean. I would give five stars, but shower only Luke warm.
I’ll be back.

Reserved a full week here and contrary to T-Mobile coverage maps and other campground review apps, there is no service. I work remotely so I left after the first day. I’m giving the park 4 stars because everything besides that was great.

I arrived early but was allowed to not only occupy my site but was also allowed to switch to one I liked better. Site 247 in the Chester loop offers the most isolation and privacy. And it was level enough for me to forego using blocks. I was so glad I could snag it. The camp host was very helpful in getting me squared away. And the park ranger went out of his way to accommodate my site change. I had decent cell coverage on both AT&T and Verizon. The bathroom/shower building was clean and the water was hot. The park was fairly quiet during my stay mid-week except for the distant sounds of work being done in the campground next to Chester. I was not able to go hiking but did see there were several trails nearby. I did go to the lighthouse and I'd say it is worth the short drive and walk to get to it. My rate reflects grandpa discount.

Sites were mostly level, ATT cell service was excellent (150Mbps up/30 down), Verizon was was poor. Short hike down to the water from the Elk and Miles loops. Nice hike out to Turkey point light house. Bath houses were clean. Nice hot shower with good pressure. Disappointed that playgrounds were all closed but looked to be in good condition (no construction happening yet but closed for renovations).

Beautiful park with accessible hiking trails and lots to explore. See massive trees while hiking to the beach or do the easy loop to the lighthouse. Cliffs, eagles, Osprey, deer and turtles dotted our hiking.

Our campsite was level and easy accessible.

The bathhouse were clean with good water pressure.
