“the most challenging section of whitewater in the Midwest”
Piers Gorge is the most challenging section of whitewater in the Midwest. The Menominee River plummets down a 10 foot waterfall and tumbles wildly through canyon walls, forming powerful hydraulics and huge standing waves. The rapids are for expert kayakers and rafters only. A nature trail offers great views of the falls, perfect for hikers, camera bugs and rock hounds. There is spectacular bald eagle viewing opportunities. In addition to the eagles, osprey, common loons, and waterfowl are common sightings. Take US-8 off US-2 in Norway and go 2 miles south. Piers Gorge is now a Michigan State Park and requires a Michigan Recreation Passport or daily fee permit available onsite.
Beautiful park with nice hiking trails.
