“Short & long form improv”
Pan Theater is an Oakland, California based improv theater. They focus on improv theater. Its work includes both short form improv (Whose Line is it style comedy) and long form improv. They also stage scripted work including Oakland’s Play Festival and other scripted, sketch and devised theater. Pan’s approach to theater training incorporates Meisner technique and the Theater Games work of Viola Spolin. Its shows blend comedy and drama with a focus on exploring the truth. They prefer comedy that is organic rather than forced. Unlike many improv groups, they don’t shy away from drama. Its shows are a mixture of both comedy and drama. Pan was founded in February of 2002 by Skip Evans and other local Bay Area improvisers. Pan Theater is a place for performers to learn, study, practice and perform improvisational theater. Pan creates improv ensembles and its Troupe Training Program is a "theater bootcamp" for those new to improv theater.
