“one of Southern Maine's most important landmarks”
John Lane's Ogunquit Playhouse, one of Southern Maine's most important cultural landmarks, produces 5 Broadway musicals each season. Opening in 1933, the work and vision of Walter and Maude Hartwig brought an outstanding, star-studded performing arts company to Ogunquit. Continuing this tradition for almost five decades, John Lane, owner and producer of the Playhouse, sought to provide his audience with the finest professional theatre in our region. In doing so, he successfully placed the Ogunquit Playhouse on the national cultural map. Set to retire after 45 years, John Lane spearheaded the effort to form a non-profit foundation to oversee the future of the Playhouse. The Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation, formed in 1997, is now the proud owner and trustee of the historic Ogunquit Playhouse. Today the Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to preserving the Ogunquit Playhouse experience for present and future generations.
