“Home of a religious turf war”

The state of Oklahoma's capitol building, in addition to it's usual state services, is home to a religious turf war that could set some interesting legal precedents.  After the legislature allowed a Christian religious monument on the front lawn, numerous other groups have stepped up to place their own monuments on the lawn, including a group of Satanists from the New York based Satanic Temple.  The Oklahoma State Capitol is the house of government of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is the building that houses the Oklahoma Legislature and executive branch offices. It is located along Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City. The present structure includes a dome that was completed in 2002. The building is a National Historic Landmark. Oklahoma's first state capital was Guthrie, Oklahoma, but was moved to Oklahoma City in 1910. Construction began on the Oklahoma State Capitol in 1914 and was completed in 1917. Originally, it housed the judicial branch of Oklahoma, but the state's high courts moved to the Oklahoma Judicial Center in 2011. The state capitol complex is the only state capitol grounds in the United States with active oil rigs.

Beautiful interior that's worth stopping by to check out. Expect the standards of parking rules and security, but it's probably an hour or less of a stop and is a great value for time destination!

When you’re ready to learn more about the history of this great state, head to the Oklahoma State Capitol, located in northeast Oklahoma City.

The state capitol is located on 100 acres and is the only capitol in the world surrounded by working oil wells. Learn more about the construction of the Greco-Roman structure, and visit the Oklahoma Veterans Memorial located on the North side of the capitol complex.

Self-guided tours are available Mon – Fri 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sat – Sun 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Guided tours are also offered Monday-Friday at 9am, 10am, 11pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm. Tours are free.

We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in OKC!
