Built to preserve the site of the state's largest Civil War battle, which took place February 20, 1864. More than 10,000 cavalry, infantry and artillery troops fought a five-hour battle in a pine forest near Olustee. Three U.S. Colored Troops took part in the battle, including the now famous 54th Massachusetts. A small interpretive center, a one-mile interpretive trail and monuments to the Union and Confederate armies are open to the public free of charge. The interpretive center contains historical information and artifacts related to the Battle of Olustee. Battle of Olustee reenactment held each Feb.
Nice little bit of history! Looks like they are saving up and have plans for a nice new visitor center which will totally make it 5 stars! The current one is just really small and old.. wouldn't have gone in alone.
Nice and Worth stop to explore the trail around the battlefield park. While there We found online some ghost stories about this place and my kids enjoyed the nice hike . It got a little spooky with all the silence around and only the wind and rain approaching.
This is a great stop off I-10, there's a visitor center with lots of information on this important Civil War Battle, which was Florida's largest battle. Every February there's a historical battle reenactment here.
