Coffin It Up

When it comes to bizarre tourist destinations, you can't get much weirder than Nevada. With Clown Motels, Zombie Apocalypse Stores, and Area 51, the desert seems to be pretty conducive to the bizarre. One of the state's strangest, though, is Coffinwood, a roadside stop dedicated to everything death. HGTV Located a little over 50 miles from Vegas, in the town of Pahrump, is the home of Bryan and Dusty Shoening, a property adorned with coffins, nearly a dozen hearses, and not just one, but two graveyards right on the front lawn. The home has been lovingly nicknamed Coffinwood, and houses the world HQ of Coffin It Up, one of the most unique coffin companies in North America. “One of the reasons why I went into coffin-making is that I got a firsthand taste on how the funeral industry actually works and the ‘car salesmanship’ that comes with it,” Bryan told local news. Forlorn Path In addition to building actual coffins, Bryan has discovered that there's apparently a booming market for coffin-shaped stuff. In his spare time, he builds everything from coffin furniture, coffin coolers, and even wooden coffin purses. Eventually, the couple's love for all things macabre took over their lives... and their home, prompting curious passers-by to stop and ask for a tour. So many people wanted to see their home, in fact, that oday the tours are an official thing. HGTV Oh yeah, and they even do weddings, if you need a dash of macabre with your marriage. Originally they wanted to perform funerals, but it turns out that more people wanted to get married in a graveyard than buried in one. HGTV “We had to jump through so many hoops because of the name.
