“Take a tour thru the 1800s”
Attn: Make sure you call ahead to plan your tour as the staff does not have set hours of operation. The Pendleton Underground Tours office is located in Pendleton's Historic District, on the corner of SW 1st Street and Emigrant Avenue. The buildings that house the tours are: the Empire Building, 1907, The Hendricks Building, 1897 and the Empire Meat Company, 1895. All properties are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Pendleton Underground Tours' properties are in what was once the red light district of Pendleton. The buildings on the tour have been maintained, true to the original state, allowing the visitor to see the sidewalks and basalt-rock tunnels the way they were constructed pre 1890's. This special authenticity adds to their uniqueness, making the tours what they are today. Pendleton Underground is an area of tunnels in the downtown redlight district where many businesses operated in the early 1900s. Although most of the tunnels have been filled in, some remain and are open to the public for tours. One place visited on the tours is said to be haunted, a living quarters for Chinese immigrants; the ghost is said to hang out in the room’s far left corner.

This is something that you have to schedule in advance. We were lucky enough that we showed up right after a tour started. The lady at the front was nice enough to let us join. This is an incredible piece of history and we are lucky that it has been so well preserved. You can tell the tour guide how long you want to spend but it could go as long as 3 hours or more.
Fabulous tour! Got to see Pendleton as it was turn of the 20th century. Takes a couple hours, and it’s a walking your with stairs. Some places to sit for a moment along the way, but potentially tiring for elderly. Highly recommended.
Great tour! I went when I was a kid and still remember how much I learned. We took our kids 11 and 16 despite the racy ladies up stairs it was very appropriate and it's how life was. I highly recommend it.
Its an underground guided tour 90 min
Had to make reservation days in advance & most likely in season you should make them long before arriving into town.
Down town has a lot of shops to look around and antique buys in old buildings.
