Petoskey State Park, located on the north end of Little Traverse Bay, is situated on 303 scenic acres and offers a beautiful sandy beach on the bay. The park has two separate modern campgrounds. Tannery Creek offers 100 campsites, and Dunes offers 80 campsites. The park land was originally deeded to Pay-Me-Gwau under an Ottawa Indian treaty in July of 1855. Later, much of the land was the site of the W.W. Rice Company. In 1934, the City of Petoskey purchased the land and named it the Petoskey Bathing Beach. In April of 1968, the beach was sold to the State of Michigan. On May 21, 1969, the state was given the title to the land. The campground opened its sites to the first campers in July of 1970.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on June 24, 2023My family used to go up to northern Michigan every summer and our favorite place to go were the dunes at Lake Michigan. Such a beautiful place to go spend the day, exploring the dunes and the surrounding forest, trapping little frogs in the woods, and hanging out at the beach. Hope to make it back up there soon!
We spent 2 nights in the state park, surrounded by very friendly campers on all sides. Our site had quite a few trees and was mostly sandy and rocky but fairly level. There are quite a few sites that are mostly grassy but they are snapped up pretty quickly. The bath house was a short walk away. We received advice from local beachgoers on how to find petoskey stones. The beach was just a few dozen steps away and the sunset was gorgeous.

This is a crowded family camp with walking access to the bay beach. Bike trails will lead right into town.

This is good for kids, has a nice beach area. Cost a bit much for what you get. Ok showers, didn't work in the morning. Just too many people too close for my camping desires. Had to take it last minute. Other parts, not Tannery Creek, may be much better. People did quite down.

We arrived and settled in the first night and were very fortunate to get a spot. Helps having under 20 ft pop up and being seniors that camp in middle of week.
Really enjoyed wheel trail trips to harbor springs and per
Risky for lunches and ice creams. There is a spur that takes you to fish hate here also you will not want to miss and also taking in Dutch bakery nearby at the end of a beautiful 9 mile paved biking trail.

Many trails. Beautiful beach. Pure Michigan for sure
Petosky is exactly what you would expect from a beach in michigan. White sand beach leading out into the lake. That being said there are a few things that bring this beach up ahead of the rest! The first is the awesome campground right up the road from it, and the second is the wind surfing!
When I was here there was anywhere from 4-6 guys windsurfing through out the day! There was even a guy trying to regular surf which was rather amusing!
