“one of the oldest redwoods in the world”
The Grandfather Tree is the second biggest attraction in the small village of Piercy. It's an ancient redwood that has a site entirely devoted to it, and a small collection of wood carvings. There is a gift shop and furniture mill.
This was a nice stop. Right off the highway. If you are driving North on 101 you will see the One-Log house first. Pull off there. They are walking distance to each other. Neither one is a huge site to see but together they make it worth stopping. There are a few good photo-ops and cute shops to look at for souvenirs. Our kids loved stopping here. Its great if you like those quirky finds along your drive.
If you are a nature enthusiast, then you must stop here! It may kill your soul to see how, in the past, they willingly destroyed many beautiful trees, however, what is left in the area is a view like no other. Also, if you want to see the house built out of one hollow redwood, then it will cost you $2.
Kinda neat. We've driven by a dozen times. Finally decided to stop. Located next to the one log house, it's two tourist traps next to each other.
It's free to see the tree. Walk around it. There isn't anything else to see. There is a gift shop there.
Definitely a quick hop out, hop in stop. Worth a visit. Stretch your legs.
If imma be honest, it’s not all that amazing. It’s quite spectacular that this thing is a site. Just a bit farther north by about 1000ft or so is a state park - 8 entry fee, but much better.
Closed in March.... awwww
