“America's most visited distillery”
For those who don’t make it "up the hill" to Gatlinburg when they visit Dollywood or otherwise explore the Great Smoky Mountains, Ole Smoky® Tennessee Moonshine has launched a nearby outpost at The Island in Pigeon Forge. The new location for Ole Smoky®, the leading distiller of premium moonshine in the U.S., features the same elements (distillery, tasting bar, retail store) as its original hub in Gatlinburg, known as The Holler. Open since October 2014, the Pigeon Forge location is aptly called the Ole Smoky Barn. The new location has approximately 6,000 square feet of public space, half the size of The Holler – America’s most visited distillery – and the adjacency of its onsite still and tasting area creates a more intimate experience. Built on an open corner with abundant glass frontage, the Barn benefits from 180 degrees of natural light and a slightly contemporary feel, while echoing the design of the original Holler through the use of reclaimed local barnwood and similar finishes, fixtures, artwork and other elements. Moonshine made at the Barn is jarred, labeled and sold onsite. In addition, the Pigeon Forge venue has a dedicated outdoor stage featuring daily live bluegrass music. "Opening an Ole Smoky location in Pigeon Forge will help us better serve the many visitors to our hometown," said Joe Baker, co-founder of Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine, leading up to the opening of the new distillery. "We’re excited to be a part of The Island. It's a great destination that offers a memorable experience for families visiting the area. We're confident that this location will become a must see for folks traveling to East Tennessee." Pigeon Forge is located at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one of the most visited parks in the U.S., and welcomes more than ten million visitors annually. Opened in June 2013, The Island in Pigeon Forge is a new retail, dining and entertainment destination whose attractions include The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel, a 200-foot-tall observation wheel, the dancing Island Show Fountains, rides, games and live music. With a current footprint of 300,000 square feet, The Island is adding additional space and tenants, including Ole Smoky Moonshine™, with its second-phase debut over the next few months. Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine has experienced rapid growth since launching in 2010, fueled by consumer interest in the non-aged whiskey category. In early 2013 Ole Smoky quadrupled its bottling capacity to keep up with rising demand with the addition of a 20,000-sq. ft. facility near its original distillery, The Holler. Its products are now available in 49 states and Canada.
Total tourist trap (as it should be). The interaction from the "experts" for those doing the sampling was exceptional (Josh and his "Hell Yeah") and infectious. The experience is really... Read more
Cool place. Laid back atmosphere. Stepped up and did the test shot sample. 9 thimble shots for $7. There are 3 stations offering these samples. My barkeep was named "Chicago" and he was very... Read more
My friend and I did a moonshine tasting for $5 each and I believe there were 9 that we sampled (2 fruits, a few creams, and many moonshines). You greet one of the bartenders, line up at the bar,... Read more
