The Monongahela Incline

We were going to do the Monogahela, but our hotel suggested the Duquesne instead. For a visitor to Pittsburgh, the view was spectacular. We found a restaurant/bar two doors over and went in for a drink. This way we could sit inside and enjoy the view. If we go back to Pittsburgh, we will definitely take the trip after sundown to see the city lights. The restaurant was called Coal Hill Steakhouse.

I loved this!! We thought they closed at 12 (noon) and they are actually open all day and night! It’s beautiful and you get the full view. I definitely recommend it. Price is $2.50 adult and $1.50 kids going up and same price going back down. I would definitely go back if I’m ever back in Pittsburgh.

I think we were absolutely laughable to the attendant when we just wanted a round trip on the incline, and I think the commuters who use it every day probably have grown blind or bored of the sights on the way up and down. We couldn't fit more of Pittsburgh into our trip, but the Monongahela would've have been a great start to a public transit tour of the city.

Fascinating feat of engineering and well preserved architecture from the 19th century. Inside the upper A's lower stations ate interesting exhibits. Plus, it is a practical way to go from the river level up to the lookouts at the top of the hill.
