"Meat and Potatoes" are generally the stand-in for "bread and butter" as shorthand for the staples we need to function. With that thought in mind Chef Richard Deshantz had the desire to enhance his culinary vision by opening up a second restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh. Chef Richards' favorite type of food is simple and approachable; it is the type of food that a chef would eat after a busy day at work. Meat & Potatoes, Pittsburgh's first gastropub, was born in the spring of 2011.
The go-to gastropub opened to instant praise in 2011 and has held its place as one of the city's top restaurants thanks to elevated-yet-approachable cuisine served in a rustic space filled with marble-topped communal tables and decorative chalkboards. Start with fried brussels sprouts, poutine and the Kobe corn dog with wasabi aioli, then move onto mains like roast chicken, fish 'n' chips or Hudson Valley duck breast.
Definitely try and make a reservation- but it's worth the wait just for the bone marrow app alone! Or try and go for brunch...can you say "Bloody Mary bar"??
So delicious! It was awful trying to find a place to park, but the food was wonderful.
