“Moving transportation history in Idaho”

The Washington, Idaho & Montana Railway began construction from Palouse WA May 10 1905 and ended 49-miles later, near Bovill ID in 1906. The Potlatch Depot was completed in June 1906. The depot was acquired by the WI&M Ry. History Preservation Group, Inc. (HPG), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in 2001. Exterior restoration was accomplished by December 2007. Interior renovation began in February 2010, with the first floor nearly completed as of September 2013. The depot currently serves the nonprofit HPG company store, office and museum (during the summer), a retail art and gift shop, and hosts local ballet and drama classes in the museum space (freight room) during the school year. The HPG hosts an annual Depot History Day & Speeder Rides on the second Saturday every July. In 2013. The depot also presents "An Evening at the Depot" several times each summer. Three tenants are interested in renting space on the second floor, so that will be the HPG's next depot work. The HPG's 56' Bennett All-Door boxcar has its own PA-system and lighting and is used as a performance stage. The group is also restoring the X5, the WI&M's woodside caboose.
