“Voted top Zoo in the U.S.”
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a non-profit zoo located in Powell, Ohio (Liberty Township/Delaware County), just north of Columbus. The land lies along the eastern banks of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir on the Scioto River, at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Powell Road. It has a worldwide reputation, largely attributable to the efforts and promotion of director emeritus Jack Hanna. In 2009, it was named by the USA Travel Guide as the number one zoo in the United States. It was also ranked number one best zoo in 2012 by Besties Readers Choice. The Columbus Zoo is home to over 9,000 animals representing over 700 species and sees over 2.3 million visitors annually. The animal exhibits are divided into regions of the world, with the zoo currently operating eight such regions. In addition the zoo owns an 18-hole golf course, known as the Safari Golf Club. The zoo also owns Zoombezi Bay and Jungle Jack's Landing. In total, the zoo owns 234 hectares (580 acres) of land, with just under half dedicated to the zoo itself.
One of the top zoos in the nation the polar bear is awesome and the new safari exhibit gives a lot of close up viewing.
Brought my nephew here on his birthday. I can tell that he had fun the whole day. Well, I did, too. He enjoyed feeding the Lorikeets most. The zoo had several separations for the animals which were housed here. They were placed according to their habitats. We particularly had fun seeing the moose, otters, red pandas and koalas. We brought our own packed lunch and did not not buy from the stalls inside the zoo. This made us save a good amount because the food inside were a little expensive. We spent almost 8 hours walking around the zoo but we still did not finish touring the whole place! I just wish we had more time, though. We would definitely go back for a second visit.
What a wonderful zoo! Loved the dinosaur island, blew the Bronx zoo's dinosaur tour out of the water. Definitely recommend this for parents of young children
Loved all of it! the new Heart of Africa exhibit is wonderful!
Amazing display of animals! The exhibits make you feel like you're in the wild!
Great zoo! Very nice large "natural" feel habitats for many of their animals. Great selection of animals as well. The animals all seem very healthy and well taken care of. The zoo itself is very well maintained and has beautiful landscaping. The manatees were awesome! If you love this zoo, you need to check out the Omaha Zoo. Columbus Zoo is only second to Omaha to our family.
We visit this zoo regularly since moving to Columbus and have annual passes that are put to great use! We've been to zoos all over the country and this one is our favorite. It's clean, spaced out, the staff are friendly, and the animals are very well taken care of.
Awesome zoo! Habitats were absolutely gorgeous.
