“A local landmark”
In 1971, John Y. and Paul S. slide into Ptown, dig no pizza parlour and figure, 'Hey, there's no biz like dough biz', throwing up a shop.Overnight success dubs them the Popes of Pizza. Then in 1976, Arnie C. and Gus G., pals of the Popes, suggest elaborating on the chow by adding ice cream and espresso to the mix.Getting the nod, they put hip in the dip, as Spiritus soars to new heights. Soon, two factors, one, the raising of the rent real high and two, the moaning of the optometrist right across the street about the noisy scene prompts John (the main man) to buy the docs crib and renovate it into a palace of pie. The front patio attracts the boys into making it the new meatrack, leaving the benches at Town Hall empty of late night love seekers. In the 1980's, competition sprouts up all over town, but no place keeps pace with the top shelf slice and ice cream operations of the one and only Spiritus.
