Welcome to the Hotel Alex Johnson, rated one of the best of Rapid City hotels for large tour groups, romantic getaways for two, corporate travelers, or those who simply want to experience the historic and mysterious allure of this South Dakota landmark. Among Rapid City hotels, the Hotel Alex Johnson has been rated one of the best places to stay and the most luxurious of all Rapid City hotels. Our beautiful ballrooms are an ideal setting for weddings or special events. Legend says that the hotel is haunted by a woman who jumped or was thrown out of room 812. She has been seen many times roaming the halls in a white gown. People have also experienced other hauntings on the 8th floor, such as windows opening and closing, and ghostly presence of a man and child.

Very friendly staff. Recommend a visit to the gift shop, and both restaurants /bars. The roof top is awesome at night.

Very comfortable with a friendly, welcoming staff. Drink prices at the rooftop bar are INSANE, but it was a gorgeous view, so we enjoyed it. This hotel is in a perfect, central location to get to many attractions, and you can easily walk to restaurants and bars. We'd stay here again for sure!

A nice, historic property in downtown Rapid City. The rooftop bar and its staff were really nice. The building is a little older and there are hints of wear, but we really enjoyed our stay and will probably stay here again when/if we have a chance to visit Rapid City again.

Hilton has renovated but preserved the old west charm of the lobby -- bison heads, carved Indian head supports for the rafters, original chandeliers, founder's photo in full native headdress. Starbucks off the lobby. They upgraded us to a king "suite" -- roomier, with sink, counter and microwave -- for only about $125. Really nicely furnished. We liked it so well we stayed a second night in our road trip from Chicago to Portland and had a great day exploring Rushmore and the phenomenal Black Hills.
