“family owned & operated since 1978”
The Millstone Family Restaurants are locally owned and operated. The first Millstone Family Restaurant opened in Milbank, S.D. in 1978. The name Millstone actually comes from an old Dutch flour mill that was across the street from this store. At this particular flourmill, a stone driven by a large windmill was used to grind the wheat into flour, hence the name millstone. In 1981 Jerry and Joan Scriver opened the first of three Millstone Family Restaurants located in the Black Hills. The West Main restaurant which is to this day, with the help from his daughter Greta Holzwarth, is operated by Jerry himself. Jerry is very much a hands on type of owner. He is not afraid to get his hands dirty. It is a familiar site to see Jerry bussing tables and seating customers. He has been doing it for the past 25 years. Do to Health problems Joan’s involvement in day to day operations has been limited. In 1993 Jerry Scriver and Sue Mann, Jerry’s sister-in-law, opened the North LaCrosse street restaurant. Sue, very much like Jerry, is very much involved in the day to day operations of the restaurant. Assisting Sue in day to day operations since 2002 is Ted L. Diehl, General Manager. The success of the two Rapid City restaurants allowed Jerry to open the Millstone Family Restaurant of Spearfish, South Dakota in 1996. Brandy Garcia is the General manager and has worked for the Millstone Family Restaurants for 18 years. Assisting her is Lacey Nepper who has worked for the Millstones for 8 years. The ultimate goal of the Millstone Family Restaurant’s is to give the best and friendliest service possible with an excellent homestyle meal served in a family atmosphere. We strive to deliver a quality product at a fair price. This way of going about business has been successful for over 25 years. We appreciate and are proud to serve the customers we have and look forward to getting to know the new one’s on a first name basis.
