“The 'fine diner' in the Black Hills”
Chef Benjamin Klinkel owns the Rapid City landmark and is creating a new style of restaurant he has dubbed the Fine Diner. With an atmosphere that resembles the casual comfort of a diner where one might expect a blueberry pancake (Tally's original recipe) bacon, egg and a hot cup of coffee along with a copy of the Rapid City Journal for under Five dollars, but with a more modern clean and sophisticated look. Lunch starts to take a more refined approach to revisited classics like the chicken and dumplings. Old favorites like the cheese soup on Fridays are joined by lighter options like the spicy basil vegetable soup. And you can still pick your favorite homemade pie from the original pie case. Healthy choices are created daily in the form of the "Silver Spoon" lunch special made with lettuces and produce grown specifically for Tally's Silver Spoon by a local farm.
Best breakfast burrito ever, my husband said. And my vegetable sautee topped with egg was very tasty. Lines build up on the weekends!
Awesome breakfast and a welcome find of great food among so many ordinary choices!
Modern diner feel at Tally's. Good food and nice servers. If you're just traveling through, this is a great lunch stop that allows you to get a feel for downtown.
When I first knew I was moving to SD, I was a bit scared I wouldnt find "good food" in the Black Hills. The kind of gastronomical-bistro fare that is our usual, here in Québec City...
Tally's Silver Spoon made everything different. Not only is the menu varied, all of it is equally good, from simple (but delicious) burgers to the more daring and fancier offerings. The service is exemplary, and the decor, while relatively simple, is still good enough for a nice night out with friends or a romantic dinner.
Breakfasts are nice but its their Date night dessert that I will dream about... good thing it's so close from my new hometown as I know I'll be back... and back... and back!
